“To discriminate against beings solely on account of their species is a form of prejudice, immoral and indefensible” – Peter Singer.

Dear Climate Healers,
Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation, published in 1975, was the first book in the modern era to call for an end to the indenturing of animals for human purposes. Peter Singer has now extensively updated and renewed this definitive classic, while including the imperative “NOW” in the title, “Animal Liberation NOW,” highlighting the urgency of immediate action on this moral issue, especially due to environmental concerns.
This need for immediate action is being felt strongly on university campuses. In a study conducted by the Food Services giant, Sodexo, 81% of university students in the US chose a vegan meal, when it was presented as the default option. In the UK, students at 20 universities have called for the implementation of 100% vegan campuses, also out of environmental concerns.
As Earthling Ed Winters writes in “This is Vegan Propaganda (and other lies the meat industry tells you),”
“One of the defining traits of our species is our ability to change, to learn from our mistakes and to evolve accordingly. Our morality has always changed, as has our understanding of the complexity and wonder of life itself. So is it not time to progress to the next step, to recognize that violence towards animals is not a rarity, but systemic and ubiquitous, to acknowledge that we need to act NOW for the future of the planet and the potential survival of not just our own species but all species?”
In their books, both Peter Singer and Earthling Ed present the case for Animal Liberation and a Vegan World using rational arguments and cold, hard facts. In contrast, New Zealand activist Maya Cohen-Ronen uses the genre of dystopian thriller fiction to make the case for deep social change and inspire compassion for all beings. Her award winning Liberation Trilogy, written under the pen name, M. C Ronen, is a true page-turner (I read all three books, The Shed, Liberation and It Was In Our Hands, yesterday) and her award citation compared the impact of these books to George Orwell’s 1984.
Maya’s latest and perhaps, most powerful novel, “DEAR TUI, a Warning,” is about to be published soon. With this novel, Maya is making the case for an urgent global transition to a largely Vegan world to avert the looming climate catastrophe.
‘DEAR TUI, a Warning‘ short book description: ‘In 2023, nine-year-old Juniper Hawthorne, is playing happily on the beach near her house, with her older brother. Climate change is a real, impending threat, of which Juniper is very much aware. But it is a creeping evil, rather than a colossal, big-bang event, so, what would her life look like growing up? How would she be impacted by this elusive, unknown, slow-brewing catastrophe? This powerful, gut-wrenching, relentless story follows Juniper throughout her life, in steady time-leaps, to reveal how her life, her family, and society at large, face the demise of life on planet Earth as we know it’.
Please consider supporting Maya’s crowdfunding campaign to initiate a powerful, professional campaign to break through mainstream media’s indifference, so that ‘DEAR TUI, a Warning’ can get the attention it deserves.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

Dear Ms. Fonda,
We’ve been huge fans of your dramatic work for years (our favorites among your movies are “On Golden Pond” and “The China Syndrome”). We’ve also admired your courage and integrity in using your high profile to speak out for many causes, from human rights to the climate. As members of the Million Vegan Grandmothers, we thank you deeply for all of this.
The Million Vegan Grandmothers have come together out of a fierce love not just for our own children and grandchildren, but for the children and grandchildren of all species. Our primary purpose as an organization is to spread awareness of the connection between what we eat and the health of our planet so that future generations have a future.
Recently, we read a Wall Street Journal article in which you were asked to name your favorite foods. In response you listed (with the requisite awareness of the negative health impacts) kosher hot dogs, pizza and ice cream. As fellow travelers on the road to environmental healing, we would humbly like to bring to your attention six environmental facts about animal agriculture and climate change that have been largely obscured by an exclusive focus in the mainstream media on fossil fuels as a cause of climate change.
It is scientifically demonstrable that up to 70% of the damage being done to our ecosystems globally—climate warming, loss of species diversity, pollution—is due to the practices of the animal agriculture industry. If a critical mass of people were to stop consuming animal products, we could actually reverse this environmental trend. The future is not just in our hands and hearts but on our plates. Adopting a plant-based diet is a powerful action within every person’s reach.
As a celebrity with a social conscience, you obviously have the power to mold opinion and shift destructive social practices. We hope that this information we are sharing with you will be something you consider in your future efforts as an activist. We invite you to look at our website where, among other things, we review the science on the causative impact of animal agriculture on the climate catastrophe. We would be so honored if you felt moved to join us; the positive impact of your influence would be beyond measure.
We believe that our work is part of a transformative and sorely needed shift in consciousness. When we refuse the indenturing of animals for food and embrace the profound insight that cruelty to animals is cruelty to ourselves, we free up a tremendous amount of energy for healing—not just ourselves but the planet, whose non-human inhabitants and ecosystems have suffered so much at the hands of animal agriculture.
With Kindest Regards,
The Million Vegan Grandmothers
