Dear Climate Healers,

Suddenly, everyone is asking,
“Will AI kill us all off within the next 6 months to 10 years?”

AI, please stand in line. Yes, Runaway AI is one of the existential crises capable of causing human extinction or civilizational collapse in the 26-dimensional PolyCrisis on Planet A. The PolyCrisis itself is a predictable consequence of unlimited extraction and hoarding, a defining feature of Planet A. But there are 15 other distinct ways in which humanity can go down the proverbial tubes, while claiming to be the most intelligent and all-round superior species on Earth.

Evidently, the road from hubris to humility is paved with suffering.

For the past two months, a chorus of AI technologists, including the CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, the CEO of Safe SuperIntelligence, Ilya Sutskever, the Chief Research Officer of Open Ai, Mark Chen, and the Chief Strategy Officer of Google DeepMind, Jasjeet Sekhon, signed an open letter to the US Government,

“AI could help create a dramatically better future, but that outcome is not guaranteed. The world’s leading AI companies believe they could be close to automating AI research. It is hard to predict exactly how much this will accelerate AI progress, but there is a real risk that capability development rapidly accelerates beyond our ability to understand or control the resulting systems.

To realize AI’s potential, industry, government, and society at large may need the option to buy time to address emerging risks, develop security measures, and strengthen oversight. But each company—and country—is under intense competitive pressure not to unilaterally slow that acceleration. And today, the world lacks the technical and governance tools to deliberately pace frontier-wide progress.

We request that the U.S. government support an international effort to develop the technical and governance tools needed to deliberately pace the frontier of automated AI development.”

However, I believe it is not the pacing of AI SuperIntelligence (ASI) development that is the problem, but the Operating System in which AI is being developed and deployed. Planet A + AI is a lethal mixture, dead certain to cause near-term human extinction.

But runaway AI is just one of sixteen ways in which Planet A can kill us off. Here are a few other ways:

The animal agriculture industry’s intention to convert the entire animal biomass of our planet into a vast monoculture of humans and factory-farmed animals, is also dead certain to cause near term human extinction.

The continued emission of 220 billion tons of chemical pollution into the environment while chopping down trees over millions of acres of land annually is also dead certain to cause near term human extinction.

The continued production of ten times as much animal manure as all the wild animals used to produce in the world 10,000 years ago is also dead certain to cause near term human extinction.

Indoctrinating people in the seven foundational myths of Planet A through the education system, while arming them with more and more powerful technological tools is also dead certain to cause near term human extinction.

Even with a celebrated victory for liberation on Planet A such as the prohibition of human slavery in the 19th century, we are still battling Slavery 2.0 as Ava Duvernay’s documentary shows. Exploitation of “the other” is a systemic problem on Planet A, and systemic problems require systemic solutions.

If we simply tweak a system’s parameters, components and time constants without changing its goals and constraint sets, we are guaranteed to get the same end result: more exploitation, more concealed exploitation if opposition exists, and human extinction as the human enterprise overreaches well beyond the limits of the planet. Given the chaos the world is in, we must do everything in our power to push for Planet B, a true systemic PolySolution for the PolyCrisis Emergency we are facing today.

We can start by telling the truth about the PolyCrisis on Planet A and offering the PolySolution of Planet B.
