12 May Celebrating Motherhood

Dear Climate Healers,
During World War I, Rudyard Kipling wrote,
“If any question why we died,
Tell them because our fathers lied.”
Are we still the fathers who lie? Let us count the ways:
Protein is only found in meat – that’s a lie.
Calcium is only found in milk – that’s a lie.
Animal agriculture is responsible for just 14% of climate change* – that’s a lie.
For truth be told:
Robust health or chronic diseases is a choice we make three times a day.
Zero hunger or world hunger is a choice we make three times a day.
Climate healing or climate heating is a choice we make three times a day
A thriving Earth or a desolate Earth is a choice we make three times a day.
Lasting peace or endless war is a choice we make three times a day.
As the drums of World War III roll, may we refuse to be the fathers who lied.
For the celebration or desecration of Motherhood is a choice we make three times a day.
Celebrate Mother’s Day by telling the truth.
Celebrate Motherhood by living the truth.
With much love,
Sailesh on behalf of the Climate Healers Core team.

* The Numbers Don’t Add Up
Dear Mr. Carrington,
The numbers don’t add up. The IPCC’s reports use net accounting for land use change and gross accounting for fossil fuel emissions, distorting the science to preserve this unjust, colonial socio-economic system. If I did my taxes this way, I am certain that I would go directly to jail.
May I propose a simple correction.
In your articles here and here, you state,
“The IPCC’s reports are the gold standard assessments of climate change, approved by all governments and produced by experts in physical and social sciences.”
That is indeed high praise for the IPCC’s reports from the Guardian newspaper, but is it accurate?
According to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), the Animal Agriculture industry only caused 25 Gigatons of carbon emissions while chopping down 3 trillion trees over the past 10000 years even though the remaining 3 trillion trees are storing nearly 2000 Gigatons of carbon on land today, 80 times as much as the missing 3 trillion trees (see attached).
This is twice as much carbon as in the entire atmosphere and four times as much carbon as in all the fossil fuels we have burned to date.
Therefore, may I suggest that you issue a correction, lest your article be cited in the future as evidence that the Guardian was complicit in this accounting coverup in the IPCC’s reports?
Animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate change.
I have personally spoken to many members of the IPCC who admit that I’m right, but are too afraid to speak up.
When our planetary home is on fire, it is high time that we find the courage to expose such coverups intended for the gain of the few at the expense of the many.
As the anonymous (scared) South African scientist rightly states in your article, “The world’s response to date is reprehensible – we live in an age of fools.
But as the saying goes, “Fool us once, shame on them. Fool us twice, shame on us.”
When the IPCC’s reports finally admit that climate change is a choice we are making three times a day, that is surely when they will deserve such high praise from the Guardian newspaper.
All the best,
Sailesh Rao.
