06 Mar International Calf and Cow Mother’s Day
“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less” – Marie Curie.
Dearest MVG,
The Million Vegan Grandmothers are happy to announce the inauguration of International Calf and Cow Mother’s Day, scheduled for Mother’s Day Weekend 2026. The event will be part of a global initiative to celebrate motherhood and eliminate the dairy industry’s practice of separating cows from their calves—often within 24 hours of the calf’s birth—in order to harvest their milk. The mental anguish of both calf and mother cow, not to mention the physical anguish of the many male calves who are subsequently slaughtered for veal four months later, is well documented but not widely known. As dedicated advocates for the mothers and offspring of all species, we wish to rekindle the spirit of the feminine divine with a message of love, collaboration, and caregiving and to halt the industry’s broader war on mothers of all species as well as Mother Earth’s ecosystems.
In order to amplify this message, we are reaching out to animal-rights organizations around the world with the request that they share over social media news about events related to International Calf and Cow Mother’s Day, such as workshops and talks from leading animal advocates. We also invite the members of these organizations to participate in local and international gatherings, ceremonies, and vigils honoring the mother-child relationship and mourning the severing of that bond by the dairy industry’s inhumane practices.
We hope you can attend our upcoming meetings on March 12th, when we will be joined by four vegan filmmakers. In the morning (8 am PST, 9:30 pm IST), Dr. Harsha Atmakuri, director of “Maa Ka Doodh” (“Mother’s Milk”), and Amruta Nair, director of the short film “A Day in My Life – A Calf’s Story”, will share with us their own journey towards creative action.
Later in the day, we’ll hear from the director of “The Land of Ahimsa”, Aryeman Ramsay, as well as the film’s narrator and producer, Dolly Vyas-Ahuja (5:30 pm PST; Thurs., 6 am IST). The Zoom link for both meetings is: https://climatehealers.org/convergence. If you’d like to watch these films in advance of the meeting, you can stream “Maa Ka Doodh” and “The Land of Ahimsa” for free at UnchainedTV:

International Calf and Cow Mother’s Day promises to be a powerful force for change. Please help us spread the message that mothers of all species deserve to be honored and respected.
I’m also pleased to introduce Supriya Suresh, who will be interning with us dedicated to the global outreach for International Calf and Cow Mother’s Day, 2026. Here’s her introductory write-up:
“I’m Supriya Suresh, an architect and holistic yoga coach & I have been vegan for 8 years.
At the age of 13, inspired by my teacher’s explanation of ahimsa, I decided to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle with my mother’s support, despite my father’s opposition. I believed this was a step toward non-violence, but during my architecture thesis, I discovered the impact of building materials on the carbon footprint. I then learned that a raw vegan diet could further reduce environmental harm. Although I initially struggled with this lifestyle, especially due to my family’s resistance, I ultimately embraced veganism after visiting Sadhana Forest, where I watched a documentary about how the forest had grown from barren land into a thriving ecosystem, and was introduced to their vegan food and gifting culture. Eight years later, I am deeply grateful to Aviram for this life-changing experience. Over time, my activism has evolved from street campaigns to a more mindful, empathetic approach, integrating yoga and retreats for a deeper, empathetic, non-aggressive impact.
I’m thrilled to be working on the calf and cow mother’s day project.”
We will also be restructuring our MVG meetings to focus around this project. We will have a general meeting on the second Wednesday of every month, at 8am and 5:30pm Pacific time and we will invite guest speakers for both sessions.
We will also have planning meetings for International Calf and Cow Mother’s Day 2026 at 7pm Pacific time on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month.
These meetings have all been added to the Climate Healers calendar here: https://climatehealers.org/for-you/calendar/ . You can also subscribe to chgroups@climatehealers.org calendar.
With Much Compassion,
Tami Hay for MVG
