Dear Climate Healers,
The last great exploration on Earth is to learn how to live on Earth sustainably for the foreseeable future.
The way we are living today isn’t working well as the UN has identified three major environmental problems: biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change.
The Stockholm Resilience Center has identified six planetary boundary transgressions in the life support systems of the planet: biosphere integrity, novel entities, biogeochemical cycles, climate change, land system change and fresh water change.
However, we know that Veganism coupled with rewilding, Veganism+rewilding, is a feasible solution to all three major environmental problems identified by the UN. This simple solution also mitigates all SIX planetary boundary transgressions identified by the Stockholm Resilience Center in 2023.
Indeed, Veganism+rewilding is an amazing solution to most of the world’s environmental, social and spiritual challenges, in addition to our existential crisis.
There are some who believe that this solution will not be widely adopted until pigs fly. However, they are in the same position as President Joe Biden last month when he was loudly proclaiming that he will never quit his campaign for reelection.
After he was relentlessly scrutinized over every stumble in his step and every slur in his speech, on Sunday, 21 July, 2024, President Biden agreed to pass the torch onto Vice President Kamala Harris on the hottest day on Earth in recorded history, exactly 108 days before the upcoming election on Nov 5th.
Also on Sunday, 21 July, 2024, the animal agriculture industry over-reached and caused the arrest of our Vegan superhero Capt. Paul Watson, thereby galvanizing the Vegan community into urgent action.
Coincidence?
Perhaps, but it is also an illustration of the perfect system design that is Nature.
As we relentlessly scrutinize the consumer habits of our friends and relatives during every extreme weather event, we will inevitably break the back of any resistance to the Veganism+rewilding solution to our existential crisis.
With extreme fires, floods, hurricanes and droughts, Nature is signaling that Western civilization founded on consumerism and supremacism, has passed its use-by date.
It is now abundantly clear that Western Civilization’s Baconian quest to conquer and subdue Nature, to shake her to her foundations, cannot be sustained much longer.
In his interview with George Stephanopoulos, President Biden provided a description of his job around minute 8,
“Not only am I campaigning (for reelection), but I am running the world.”
At minute 16 he said,
“I am doing a hell of a lot of other things like wars around the world, like keeping NATO (a military alliance formed in opposition to China and Russia) together.”
In his worldview, life is just a struggle for survival necessitating the dominance of the “superior” over the “inferior.” Hence Western Civilization’s fixation on endless wars, perpetual growth and competitive games.
However, life is also a rich and beautiful tapestry of spiritual beings making a brief stopover here for an earthly experience. As an integral part of this life community, we have a responsibility to restore the Earth’s life support systems to a good working condition for future generations.
Let’s recall how we got here in just the blink of an eye on a planetary scale. Imagine the past 500,000 years of human history condensed into 50 years.
Fifty years ago, we discovered how to control fire. Before that, we used to eat raw foods, obviously mostly plants. Once we started cooking with fire, we expanded the varieties of foods we could consume. With the controlled use of fire, we fashioned implements and weapons out of metals.
Five years ago, we formed partnerships with wolves, who became our dogs. With their superior sense of smell, sight and hearing, dogs enabled us to detect predators from afar to keep us safe. This allowed us to migrate out of Africa and spread to every part of the globe during the previous mini ice age.
In order to survive in the colder climates that we migrated into, we started eating cooked foods and wearing the skins of dead animals.
A year ago, as the Earth warmed out of the ice age into the Holocene era, we started agriculture almost everywhere. Our land clearing for agriculture, especially animal agriculture, further heated up the climate and prevented the Earth from reverting to another mini ice age about seven months ago.
Also seven months ago, we learned to write and use carts with wheels.
Just three weeks ago, we invented the printing press.
Just ten days ago, we invented the steam powered locomotive.
We invented airplanes and automobiles three days ago and internet usage became widespread just yesterday.
Today, we are deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to sift fact from fiction in the vast body of knowledge that we had accumulated over the past 5 years.
This is an astonishing pace of development. Surely, it makes perfect sense that this happened for us to fulfill our collective role as the thermostat species of the planet, not just to mindlessly kill ourselves off in a planetary conflagration.
This is the motivation for us to adopt the Veganism+rewilding solution to our existential crisis. We belong on Earth exactly as we are.
History has repeatedly shown that when we band together for a common cause, we make the impossible possible.
In the perfect system design that is Nature, what is good for us is also good for the planet. When we band together to heal Nature, we heal ourselves and when we band together to heal ourselves, we heal Nature.
How amazing is that?
It is time for those who are clutching the levers of power and wealth in Western civilization to loosen up and deploy resources for the implementation of this Veganism+rewilding solution.
In collaboration with the Founding Mothers Movement, we at Climate Healers, are calling for a new system organized around lasting peace, not endless war, organized around planetary well being, not perpetual growth.
Join us at V-COP18 and help us make it happen.
With much love,
Sailesh on behalf of the Climate Healers Core team.
