26 Sep The Planet B Chronicles: 15. The Games We Play
“Every battle is won before it is ever fought” – Sun Tzu.
Dear Climate Healers,
The Planetary Health Check 2025 Report makes for grim reading. Seven of the planetary boundaries are now transgressed and two of them, biosphere integrity and novel entities, are assessed to be in a high risk situation, implying a high probability of destabilizing the Earth’s life-support system due to very strong boundary transgressions.
This is a very strong indication that we need to transform the games we play. In particular, the ubiquitous game of money we play is ripe for a redesign. This game is the root cause of the planetary boundary transgressions since it promotes endless growth.
On Planet A, the fractional reserve currency system creates new currency in the form of debt, which is expected to be returned with interest. The architecture of this currency system fundamentally fosters competition, growth beyond planetary boundaries, and a mindset of scarcity. The objective of each player in the game of money is to maximize its accumulation to insure against potential future hardship.
The popular phrase, “A fool and his money are soon parted,” indicates that players in the game with subpar capabilities can expect to be poor and starving as the cleverer players pick their pockets. This is not a compassionate outcome.
In contrast, on Planet B, we propose an AhimsaCoin economic substrate to replace growth compulsion and scarcity assumptions of the fractional reserve currency system with a bottom-up allowance from Nature that encodes equality, sufficiency and nonviolence. This resonates with the popular notion that Nature has endowed all human beings with an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Unit and issuance: One AhimsaCoin (A) represents the productive output of 1 square meter-year of the Earth’s surface. A is offered directly to persons at a uniform cadence (baseline: 1 A every ~50 minutes), creating a lifelong, unconditional stream that secures basic provisioning without debt.
Throughput-linked retirement: AhimsaCoins are retired (“burned”) at point of biocapacity use via publicly auditable “retirement coefficients” r(k) of A per unit activity k.
For more details, please see Section 5.3 of the Planet B technical paper that we submitted for publication as a chapter in the upcoming MDPI Special Issue on Challenges, edited by the Planetary Health Alliance. If you would like to join a reading group for this paper, we will be meeting every Friday at 9:30 am Pacific time in the Convergence room starting September 26th.

Please join us in Toronto for the Vegan Convergence Of the Peoples #23 (V-COP23) on Nov 1-2 to help shape and implement our system design plan for Planet B. The theme for V-COP23 is offered by our co-host, Plant Based Treaty: Redirect, Relinquish, Restore::
Redirect our focus from fixing Planet A to building Planet B.
Relinquish the excess resources we have taken from the planet.
Restore the life-support systems of the planet with the relinquished resources.
Please be there and help make history.
With much love,
